Kazakhstan’s Yeldos Smetov dominated the first men’s judo competition of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 to win the gold medal over France’s Luka Mkheidze, who took silver on 27 July at the Champ-de-Mars Arena. Smetov took the silver medal at Rio 2016 and bronze at Tokyo 2020, but today, will finally stand on top of the Olympic podium.
Both men beat their results from Tokyo 2020, where they shared the podium to take the bronze medals.
Taking the bronze medals today were Japan’s Nagayama Ryuju and Spain’s 2023 world champion, Fracisco Garrigos.
